Summer is almost here. Bask in Maryland’s sunshine as you explore our mountains, beaches, historic sites and urban centers. You’ll find plenty of fun experiences across our state – whether you’re looking for a family outing or weekend getaway. Just remember: Once you come in June, you’ll want to return in July and August. Maryland. Pretty. Close.

Arts & Entertainment - Bard on the Rocks
Enjoy Shakespeare amid the remnants of a granite Greek Revival building that housed a 19th-century finishing school for young women on a hilltop in Ellicott City. Chesapeake Shakespeare Company in-the-Ruins presents The Comedy of Errors and The Tempest, weekends June 6 through July 13.

Spectator Sports - Flip Tricks at the Yard
Skateboarders will be flying when the AST Dew Tour – the nation’s premier action sports tour with a $2.5 million competitive purse – jumpstarts its 2008 season at Camden Yards in Baltimore, June 19-22. “Cutting-edge music,” gaming lounge, airbrush tattoo parlor and plenty of Mountain Dew.

Family Fun - Two festivals, two sizes, two weekends
Third annual African American Heritage Weekend, June 13-14, at Wilmer Park in Kent County, celebrates African-American history on the Eastern Shore. Later, Baltimore’s African American Heritage Festival – one of largest such events in nation – returns with Patti Labelle, LL Cool J, Nancy Wilson at M&T Bank Stadium, June 27-29.

Great Outdoors - Patuxent River Sojourn
Experience Southern Maryland’s Bay country while kayaking down the lower end of the Patuxent River, June 19-24. Take the full six-day trip or select a day or two. Riverside camping, educational programs, festive meals, live music. Information, Allilance for the Chesapeake Bay.

History & Heritage - Celebrating the Queen City!
Allegany County’s 40th annual Heritage Days Festival, June 14-15, marks the start of summer in Mountain Maryland. Arts & crafts, entertainment, sidewalk vendors. Held in Cumberland’s historic district, festival coincides with Allegany County Museum’s Open House – local history, architecture, folk art, transportation exhibits.

Hidden Gem - Chicken Rules
Dress up like a chicken or come as you are to the 59th annual Delmarva Chicken Festival in Salisbury, June 20-21. Ten-foot frying pan, live entertainment, carnival rides, arts & crafts, car show and lots of chicken to eat.
