Maryland’s biotechnology and life sciences companies are marking a week of great industry news, as a contingent of 400 attendees from Maryland, including a delegation of 30 state bioscience companies, participated in the 2010 BIO International Convention, held May 3-6 in Chicago. Governor O’Malley received the 2010 BIO Governor of the Year Award for outstanding leadership in growing the state's biotechnology industry. Governor O'Malley lends a hand installing panels on Earth Day
Sunburst to Triple Solar Power, Create 100 Jobs
On Earth Day, Governor O’Malley and Howard County Executive Ken Ulman joined Astrum Solar, a residential and small commercial solar panel systems installation company, to promote the new Project Sunburst program. Leveraging federal stimulus funds and administered by the Maryland Energy Administration, Project Sunburst will triple the amount of solar energy produced in Maryland over the next 12 months by funding solar installations on 32 government buildings. Sensor Tech. Adding 300 BRAC Jobs in Harford
Sensor Technologies, a Northern Virginia defense contractor, recently leased 63,000 square feet of office space near Aberdeen Proving Ground in Harford County to accommodate 300 employees and could eventually double its staff to 600 at the Water's Edge Corporate Commons in Belcamp. The ManTech International subsidiary will relocate from New Jersey to Maryland as part of the Base Realignment and Closure process. READ MORE.

Cycle World hired three new employees in part due to the new Job Creation Tax Incentive

Tax Incentive Creates New Jobs
Baltimore-based Cycle World recently hired three new employees though Maryland’s Job Creation and Recovery Tax Credit, and plans to hire additional workers to support its growing retail business. The company, owned by Jeff Jeffers with locations in Brooklyn Park and Rosedale, is the area’s largest volume power sports dealer with more than 25 employees and was one of the first companies to apply for the credit.
