MD Scores US Youth Soccer Championships; Sailing Museum
Maryland will host the U.S. Youth Soccer Region I National Championships in 2013 and 2014. The championships, which will be held in Harford County, will draw between 3,500 and 4,000 players each year, generating an estimated $25 million economic boost and 15,000 room nights for the lodging industry. In other sporting news, the National Sailing Hall of Fame has announced it will construct a 20,000 square-foot museum on a state-owned site at the City Dock in Annapolis. The $30 million attraction could support 95 jobs.

Since the Office of Sports Marketing, led by Director Terry Hasseltine, was established by Governor O'Malley, Maryland has become a Mecca for big name sporting events including the 2010 and 2011 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championships, 2009 and 2010 NCAA Women’s D-I Lacrosse Championship and 2011, 2014 and 2016 Army-Navy Games. In addition, Baltimore City and Prince George’s County both made the final cut to be included in the United State’s official bid to be presented to FIFA for the 2018 and/or 2022 FIFA World Cup™.
