A Message from the Secretary
It has been a very busy first 100 days here at DBED but I think we are off to a good start. Since my arrival, I have addressed and sought input from more than 75 business and economic development forums, reaching more than 6,000 business owners. We also:
- Built on core economic strengths with the creation of Maryland's first Federal Facilities Advisory Board and first International Advisory Council; as well as BioMaryland 2020, Imagine Maryland and the reestablishment of the Maryland Economic Development Commission.
- Linked Maryland businesses with stimulus opportunities by launching two new Web tools and participating in more than 20 local stimulus seminars.
- Helped 17 companies locate or expand in Maryland, creating 630 jobs and saving 953 jobs.
I know that we have just scratched the surface of what we can achieve if we continue to improve communication, expand advocacy and increase support for Maryland's existing businesses. Thanks for your efforts to grow our economy and move Maryland forward.
