A Message from the Secretary
Yesterday I was honored to join Governor O'Malley, County Executive Jim Smith and a dozen Baltimore area business leaders for a private meeting with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke at Towson University. The Secretary was in town to promote President Obama's digital TV conversion initiative and took the opportunity to share with us his vision for business while outlining a host of U.S. economic initiatives during the President's first 100 days in office.
Secretary Locke discussed a number of priorities of interest to the group including:
-
Loosening antiquated federal regulations that restrict trade
- Increasing educational attainment goals to ensure that American students can compete in the global marketplace
- Expanding the Commerce Department's impact on small and medium-sized companies
Many thanks to our host, Dyan Brasington and her staff at Towson University and to the business leaders who joined us for this very engaging session.
