The mission of the Maryland State Arts Council, an agency of the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development, Division of Tourism, Film and the Arts, is to encourage and invest in the advancement of the arts for the people of Maryland. In 2006, the Maryland arts industry contributed more than $1.05 billion to the State’s economy, generated an estimated $37.3 million in state and local taxes and provided more than 13,762 full time equivalent jobs statewide.
