Cumberland A&E District wins first-time state award
Hannah Byron, secretary of Maryland's Division of Tourism, Film and the Arts, presents Andy Vick, director of the Allegany Arts Council, with a proclamation from Gov. Martin O'Malley that salutes the outstanding achievement of the Cumberland Arts & Entertainment District, March 25 in Havre de Grace at the annual meeting of Maryland's A&E districts. The Cumberland district, established in 2002 and expanded in 2007, is one of 18 A&E districts across the state.

A&E district representatives received a brief overview of the Arts Council's strategic plan, Imagine Maryland. Carven also said the Arts Council would continue to provide technical assistance grants to the districts. Regarding policy issues, she said a review committee will look at growth strategies for the A&E program and there will now be one yearly deadline (Oct. 1) for A&E applications.

Conference participants later heard presentations from representatives of the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development's Neighborhood Revitalization Division, who discussed funding opportunities in the Community Legacy, Neighborhood Business Works and Capital Project programs.

The city of Havre de Grace and its mayor, the Honorable Wayne H. Dougherty, co-hosted the meeting.
