DBED leader gets Senate OK; tourism, arts appointments also confirmed

Norman is general manager of the Hilton Baltimore Convention Center hotel, a $300-million publicly financed hotel that opened last August in downtown Baltimore. The 757-room Hilton is expected to provide the necessary lodging space that can entice more conventions to the city. Prior to coming to Baltimore, Norman was general manager of the Hilton Glendale (Calif.).
Winch, is director of publications at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian. He is also a poet, author and musician, who has taken an active role in Irish-American culture. Winch has published four books of poetry and two story collections, and his literary work is in more than 30 anthologies, As a traditional Irish musician, he played with the band Celtic Thunder, and since 1998, he has played in the band Narrowbacks.
The Tourism board is a 24-member panel that advises the Maryland Office of Tourism. The Maryland State Arts Council is a 17-member group that advises the professional staff of the Arts Council.
