To attain this goal, funding of the MSAC will be reduced by $2,269,000. While reduction of the Maryland State Arts Council funding will certainly impact our grantee organizations, artists, arts education and other MSAC programs, I have every confidence that in these difficult times, MSAC, along with our partners and grantees, will maintain our dedication to arts in Maryland and continue to make the case that the arts are central to the economic vitality and quality of life in our state.

We want to be certain that you are aware of the severity of the budget issues facing Maryland and to assure you that we will continue to support Maryland’s arts sector. As valued partners, we look to your leadership during these difficult times to communicate the critical role our programs serve in not only in creating jobs, generating taxes and spending, and leveraging resources, but also for providing meaningful arts experiences to residents. I also ask that you communicate this information to your board members, local arts organizations and other key partner agencies in the community.

Thank you for your continued support of the Maryland State Arts Council. While this is a challenging time, I am certain that the arts will prevail due to the indefatigable resourcefulness and energy of Maryland’s arts industry.
Sincerely,

Theresa Colvin
