understand, celebrate and serve this County’s multi-ethnic
population.”
Jenkins has more than 20 years of leadership experience with cultural
organizations, such as the Rhythm and Blues Foundation, the Smithsonian
Institution and the Recording Industry Association of America.
As
a visiting professor/executive in residence at Loyola University
in New
Orleans, she recently coordinated the relocation of the
Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Perfomance from the University
of Southern California to Loyola. The program encourages accomplished
jazz musicians to teach their craft to younger musicians – much
like Thelonius Monk did from his New York City apartment during
the 1950s and 1960s.
